Working together to make a significant and purposeful difference in the lives of all our Young Adults is at the core of everything we do at Summerhouse. Volunteers make up significant part of our mission. Your contributions of time, talent and treasure make a life transforming difference in the lives of our Young Adults at Summerhouse Houston. In the process, our Volunteers also experience love and fulfillment as they serve side-by-side with our Young Adults and all who engage with our mission.

There are many ways you can volunteer with us! Our volunteers:

• Serve as mentor to our members
• Provide social, vocational, and behavioral supports to members in a variety of different settings, including volunteer opportunities and leisure activities in community-based settings
• Utilize their own interests and skills to bring a new activity to Summerhouse members – the sky is the limit!
• Occasionally help with planning and day-of support for special events (fundraisers, open houses, etc.)

Requirements

• 18+
• Pass a background check
• If volunteering to support members, commit to at least 1 daytime/weekday activity per semester (fall, spring, or summer); typically 2-3 hours/week
• Reliable transportation preferred
• Creative, outgoing, respectful, flexible, willing to work with young adults with varying abilities
• Attend an orientation and training session
